Activating Fraud Prevention Capability at Checkout?

Due to seeing an increase in fraudulent activity on Shopify, we've implemented a security feature to prevent scammers using the donation widget to test stolen credit cards.

Although rare, we have seen some cases where our donation widget is being used to make frequent $1 - $2 checkout purchases - a known fraud method called 'Card Testing',  where fraudsters test different cards to check which ones can be used to make other higher value fraudulent transactions.

To help prevent this, GoGenerosity has implemented a security feature that can be activated by a store owner to ensure these types of low value purchases are rejected as part of the Checkout process.

This detection is safe to enable and only rejects orders that have a SINGLE basket item consisting of ONLY a pay-it-forward donation, where the donation amount is less than $10.

Activating fraud prevention safe-guards:

  1. Access Checkout Settings: From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout.

  2. Find Checkout Rules: In the Checkout section, locate and click on the “Add rule” button.

  3. Select the option to add the “Pay-it-forward fraud prevention”.

  4. Select the option to “Save” the rule.

  5. IMPORTANT: Select the option to “Turn on”, and then exit.

  6. check mark button That’s it. Fraud-detection for your checkout is now active.
